Why a second book exists
If necessary, you are allowed to hold two valid US passports. Follow the instructions on this page to expedite your second valid US passport through the Chicago office.

What the government asks for
- A second passport is only valid for two years, not the standard ten.
- Your current passport must have been issued when you were 16 or older and be in your current name.
- The business letter must be an original with a wet signature from a company in the US, explaining why a second passport is needed.
- The Second Limited Passport Statement needs to be completed and signed.

Government expedite fees must be paid by cashier's check or money order, payable to “US Department of State”. Emergency replacement and limited validity replacement passports depend upon application type.
Sameday Passport & Visa Expedite Services also lets you pay everything by debit card, cash or check and will obtain the money order for an additional fee of $10.00.

Adding it up for a second passport
At the fastest speed a second passport is the $216.87 government fee and the $399 service fee, with shipping on top only if you want it couriered. There is no execution fee on this application type.
- Include a prepaid return air bill and you will not be charged for shipping.
- Provide a FedEx account number and the Chicago office will generate the air bill, with a $5 fee added to your work order.
- Or collect both passports in person at Suite 203.
- Return shipping is an optional service. Sameday Passport & Visa Expedite Services only returns passports using FedEx.
