By visa type

Tourist, business, work and eVisa.

Each type adds its own documents on top of the four above. The OCI card is covered in its own section below.

Tourist visa

  • For tourism only. Maximum stay 180 days per visit, with a 2-month gap between tourist visits.
  • Former nationals of India. Former nationals of India and their spouse and children should apply for an Entry visa, which has no 2-month gap rule.
  • Minors under 18. Birth certificate, both parents' passport or ID copies, and a notarized Parental Consent Form.

Work visa

  • Employment visa. For those employed by an Indian company. Requires a work contract or appointment letter.
  • Company documents. Certificate of Incorporation and business registration from the Indian company.
  • Salary details. Proof of salary exceeding USD 25,000 per year, stated in the employment contract.

Business visa

  • Business letter. On company letterhead with an original signature, stating the India contact, purpose, days, lodging and financial guarantor.
  • Invitation letter. On the India company's letterhead, original or scanned.
  • Letter or Certificate of Incorporation. From the inviting India business.

  • Online eVisa application. At indianvisaonline.gov.in. Valid for 60 days, double entry for tourism and business.
  • Valid passport. Signed, at least 1 blank page, valid 6 months beyond your travel date.

  • Travel details. Round-trip ticket and hotel booking or host address in India.

What is the difference between an India eVisa and a regular sticker visa?
The India eVisa is issued electronically and emailed to you — no passport submission needed and no FedEx return. It covers tourism, business and medical visits up to 60 days. A regular sticker visa is stamped into your passport and allows longer stays and multiple entries. If you are traveling within 4 business days, the eVisa is usually the fastest path. How long does an OCI card take and what does it allow?
An OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card averages 8 to 12 weeks from submission. It is a lifelong document — no renewal ever needed — and allows unlimited entries to India with no time limit per visit. It does not grant Indian citizenship or voting rights. Can I apply if I was born in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Nepal?
Applicants of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Nepal origin must apply for the India visa in person at the Indian consulate directly — our expediting service cannot file on their behalf. Call us at (310) 402-1619 and we will walk you through exactly what to bring and where to go.
My U.S. address does not match my driver's license. Is that a problem?
Yes — the consulate requires your address to match a supporting document. If your driver's license shows an old address, bring a recent utility bill (water, power or sewage) showing your current address instead. We check this at the counter before anything is submitted so your application is not returned for a mismatch.
What photo requirements does the India consulate have?
India visa photos must be 2x2 inches, taken against a plain white background, full face visible, no glasses, taken within the last 6 months. The photo cannot be the same one used in your current passport. We take compliant photos in our office — no appointment needed, walk in anytime during business hours.
Passport not ready for the trip?
