Passport Renewal By Mail
If you cannot come into our Los Angeles office and want to renew your passport by mail, this is exactly what to send. Renewals are simpler than new applications because no acceptance facility visit is required — you mail everything directly to Sameday Passport & Visa.
Check first
You can renew by mail if all of the following are true
If any one of these is not true, a renewal by mail will be rejected. Call Sameday Passport & Visa and we will tell you which route applies.
- Your most recent passport is a 10-year adult passport (issued age 16 or older)
- It expired no more than 5 years ago, or will expire within 5 years
- It is undamaged and can be submitted with your application
- You were over 16 when it was issued and your appearance has not significantly changed

Your package
What to send
- Your original, undamaged passport (a 10-year passport, expired no more than 5 years ago)
- A copy of your driver's license or state ID, front and back, if possible
- Two passport photos, 2x2 inches, on a white background
- A personal check or money order for $213.36, payable to the U.S. Department of State
- A travel itinerary if you are traveling within 14 days
- Form DS-82, completed, printed, and signed
- Two Letters of Authorization of the same kind (check the first two options, leave the courier company blank)
- Service Order Form, completed and printed
- Do not mail anything until you have spoken with Sameday Passport & Visa first

Good to know
Renewals are rejected most often for a photocopied name-change document or a photo taken too long ago. Check these before you seal anything.
Form DS-82
Fill out Form DS-82, print it, and sign it. Unlike the DS-11 for new passports, you sign the DS-82 yourself before mailing — no acceptance facility required.
Service Order Form
Print and complete the Service Order Form and include it with your documents.
Two Letters of Authorization
Fill out two letters of the same kind. Check the first two boxes only, and leave the courier company blank until you call Sameday Passport & Visa.
Personal check or money order
Make it payable to the U.S. Department of State. The adult renewal government fee is $213.36. Do not send cash.
Travel itinerary
If you have a ticket or itinerary showing travel within 14 days, include a copy. If you do not have one yet, please call Sameday Passport & Visa so we can advise on timing.
Passport photos
Two photos, 2x2 inches, on a white background, taken within the last month. Sameday Passport & Visa takes compliant photos in our office if you want to stop by first, $20.
Changed your name?
If you changed your name through marriage or divorce, include a certified marriage certificate or court decree. Originals or certified copies only — no photocopies or notarized copies.
Proof of identity
Include a clear copy, front and back, of one valid ID:
- A valid U.S. driver's license or state ID
- A U.S. military ID
- A permanent resident card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
No acceptance facility, no execution fee. Sign the DS-82 yourself, mail the package to Sameday Passport & Visa and it is filed on arrival.

Government Expedite Fees must be paid by cashiers check or money order, payable to “US Department of State”. Emergency Replacement Passport dependent upon application type. Limited Validity Replacement Passport dependent upon application type. Sameday Passport & Visa offers clients the ability to pay everything by debit card, cash or check and Sameday Passport & Visa will obtain the money order for an additional fee of $10.00.

Optional Service. Sameday Passport & Visa only returns passports using FedEx. You can include a prepaid return air bill in which case you will not be charged. You can provide a FedEx account number and Sameday Passport & Visa will generate the air bill — an additional fee of $5 will be charged to your work order.
