Eligibility
To qualify for UK passport renewal.
Three conditions decide whether your book can be renewed from the United States. Sameday Passport & Visa checks all three before an appointment is booked.
- Your most recent Red UK passport can be submitted, in good condition.
- You are currently residing in the USA.
- You are 16 years of age or older.
- Child and replacement applications follow a different route. Call Sameday Passport & Visa and the correct one will be identified for your case.
HM Passport Office states that a new passport does not carry the same number as the old one, so tickets and visas tied to the old number will not match. A burgundy passport, or one with “European Union” on the cover, stays valid until it expires.

How to apply
What Sameday Passport & Visa needs from you.
The online application, the photographs and four document sets. Each one is checked at the counter before the file is submitted.
Complete the online application
- Do not sign the application until instructed to do so.
- Complete assistance is provided with the online application, uploading your documents and the photo service, in the office.
- Same day service must be arranged in advance. Call Sameday Passport & Visa before processing your application if you are requesting it.
Passport photos
- British passport size photos measure 45 millimetres high by 35 millimetres wide.
- Passport photo services are available at the Sameday Passport & Visa offices, taken and uploaded in the same visit.
Dual nationality
- Colour copies of all pages in your U.S. passport are required if you hold U.S. and UK dual nationality.
- Copies are made in office so the set is complete when the application goes in.
Proof of residency
- A clear photocopy of the driver’s licence or state issued ID is the best proof of address.
- The address must match exactly. The address on the ID must match the present address on the application.
- Alternatives. The most recent major utility bill for water, gas, electric or sewage, or a copy of a valid and current lease containing both the landlord and tenant signature, may also be accepted.
Residency status
- Copy of front and back of the U.S. Permanent Resident Card or valid visa.
- U.S. visa holders should have the original I-94 or I-20 stapled to their passport.
- Longer timelines apply in some cases for applicants who do not hold a valid U.S. Permanent Resident Card and who have not been resident in the United States for 2 years or longer.

- Passports are processed 2 weeks.

The GOV.UK Check and Send service and paper application forms are only offered inside the United Kingdom. An applicant residing in the USA applies online, which HM Passport Office prices at £13.50 less than applying by post.

Temporary or starter checks, and checks without a name and address, will not be accepted.
FedEx return shipping
Optional and tracked. Your return address must match your proof of address.
Provide a FedEx account and Sameday Passport & Visa generates the air bill for $5.
Sameday Passport & Visa service fees will be applied in addition to the government fees.
