Nothing goes in incomplete
An application left incomplete for 20 calendar days is returned unprocessed. Sameday Passport & Visa works the full VFS checklist at the counter before the file is sealed.

- Online government form completed at embassy.passportindia.gov.in, with the Application Reference Number printed. Paper forms are not accepted.
- Your current Indian passport plus copies, or Annexure F where the book is lost or damaged.
- Proof of valid U.S. status — visa page, EAD, Green Card or I-797A approval notice.
- Annexure E and a notarized affidavit for change of appearance and signature.
- Photographs to Indian specification taken in the Sameday Passport & Visa office.
- Return address matching your proof of address — VFS rejects courier-store and hold-at-location addresses.
Every form uses the Indian date order. A date of birth cannot be corrected after the passport is issued, which means a re-application. Sameday Passport & Visa proofreads the form with you before it is printed.

Re-issue, fresh, Tatkal and the special cases.
Find the category your application falls under. Each one adds its own documents and its own timeline on top of the base set above.
Re-issuance, adult
- 18 years and above. An Indian passport runs 10 years from the date of issue and must be replaced when it expires.
- Apply up to a year early. A fresh book can be applied for up to one year before the expiry date.
- Ordinary or Jumbo. 36 pages at $285, or the 60-page Jumbo booklet at $375, both 10 years.
Fresh passport
- Newborns and exhausted books. Fresh passports are issued to newborns, and where an existing passport has run out of visa pages.
- Minors under 15. Five-year validity. Annexure D notarized is mandatory, and Annexure C where one parent has not consented.
- Age discounts. Children 8 or under and adults 60 or over receive a 10 per cent reduction on the passport fee.
Lost, stolen or damaged
- Not eligible for Tatkal. These cases go through regular re-issuance only.
- Annexure F is mandatory. Plus the separate VFS checklist for loss or for damage, whichever applies.
- Higher passport fee. $250.00 for an adult 36-page book and $300.00 for the Jumbo booklet, before ICWF and VFS fees.
Tatkal emergency service
- 3 to 4 business days. Excluding VFS processing time, and only where the Police Verification Report is clear and every document is in order.
- Valid status required. Open to applicants holding a valid passport and valid U.S. visa status.
- Pending PVR changes everything. If the report is not clear, the timeline becomes approximately 30 days or more. The same applies to adoption, single-parent minor, major name change, duplicate passport and doubtful documentation cases.
Name change and corrections
- Notarized affidavit of name change is mandatory where the name on the application differs from the current passport.
- Barred from Tatkal. Change of name, sex, date of birth, place of birth, and a change of a father's or mother's name all go through regular service.
- Appearance and signature. Adults cannot use Tatkal for these; minors can.
Short Validity Passport
- Replaced through re-issuance. A Short Validity Passport is exchanged for a full-validity book under regular service.
- Tatkal is not available for the renewal of a Short Validity Passport.
- Machine-readable only. Under ICAO rules, only machine-readable printed passports are accepted for international travel.
Every minor application carries Annexure D notarized. Where one parent has not given consent, Annexure C is added. Sameday Passport & Visa notarizes on site so a minor file is not sent back for a missing signature.

Re-issuance of passport
Government and VFS fee, including $2.00 ICWF and the $19.00 VFS fee.
Processing: about 3 weeks once the application reaches the Consulate or Embassy.
Tatkal, emergency re-issuance
Passport fee plus the $125.00 Tatkal fee, ICWF and VFS fee.
Processing: 3 to 4 business days with a clear Police Verification Report, otherwise approximately 30 days or more.
Fresh passport
Regular service. Age discounts are applied to the passport fee.
Tatkal fresh passport: minor under 15 $236.00, minor 8 or under $214.50, adult 60 or above $246.00.
Lost or damaged passport
Regular service only. Not eligible for Tatkal.
Paying the government fee
- Card payments carry a 3.75 per cent convenience charge over and above the total. Mastercard and Visa only.
- A money order, banker's check or cashier's check is made payable to VFS Services (USA) Inc.
- The Sameday Passport & Visa expedite fee is separate and is paid to the office.

- Card payment of the government fee carries a 3.75 per cent convenience charge, added by VFS.
- FedEx pre-paid labels are not accepted for the return of your documents, and USPS labels with an expiry date are not accepted either.
- One application per package. Do not enclose several applications in the same envelope.
- Provide a FedEx account and Sameday Passport & Visa generates the air bill for $5.
