Photos we take
Every country sets its own size and background.
These are the formats asked for most often at the Los Angeles counter. Any other country's specification is taken on request, at the same price.
U.S. passport photo
Plain white background, taken to the U.S. Department of State specification. Used for new, renewal, child and lost passport applications.
Canadian passport photo
The Canadian size with a neutral background, including the date and studio details where they are required on the reverse.
European and Schengen photo
Biometric format for EU and Schengen passports and visas, on a light grey or white background.
British passport photo
UK passport and visa standard, plain cream or light grey background, no shadows.
Visa photos, any country
China, India, Brazil, Russia and more. Each consulate's exact size and background is matched. Tell the counter which country you are applying to.
Green card and citizenship
USCIS compliant photos for green card, citizenship, OCI and other immigration documents.

Why it matters
A rejected photo costs days, not dollars.
The photo is the cheapest part of an application and the easiest one to get wrong. A drugstore crop that misses the head-size rule sends the whole file back.
Where photos get rejected
- Wrong dimensions. A 2 x 2 inch U.S. crop is not accepted where 35 x 45 mm is required, and the head must fill a set proportion of the frame.
- Wrong background. Off-white, patterned or shadowed backgrounds are the most common reason a consulate returns a photo.
- Glasses, hats and expression. Glasses are not permitted on U.S. passport photos, and the expression must be neutral with both eyes open.
- Too old. A U.S. passport photo must have been taken within the last six months, and several consulates ask for one taken within the last month.
