Why a second book exists
If necessary, you are allowed to hold two valid US passports. Follow the instructions on this page to expedite your second valid US passport through the Dallas office.
The usual reason is a visa. While your main passport sits at a consulate waiting for a stamp, the second book keeps you travelling. Sameday Passport & Visa sees this most often with the Chinese and Indian consulates.
Your primary passport stays valid the whole time and comes back to you when the process is complete.
What the government asks for
- A second passport is only valid for two years, not the standard ten.
- Your current passport must have been issued when you were 16 or older and be in your current name.
- The business letter must be an original with a wet signature from a company in the US, explaining why a second passport is needed.
- The Second Limited Passport Statement needs to be completed and signed.
Sameday Passport & Visa reads both documents over before they leave Suite 500, because a letter that does not state a reason is the usual cause of a rejected second-passport application.

If you are processing your passport application with Sameday Passport & Visa by mail, fill out two Letters of Authorization and the service order form and send them along with the documents to Suite 500.

Government expedite fees must be paid by cashier's check or money order, payable to “US Department of State”. Emergency replacement and limited validity replacement passports depend upon application type.
Sameday Passport & Visa also lets you pay everything by debit card, cash or check and will obtain the money order for an additional fee of $10.00.

Adding it up for a second passport
At the fastest speed a second passport is the $213.36 government fee and the $399 service fee, with shipping on top only if you want it couriered. There is no execution fee on this application type.
- Include a prepaid return air bill and you will not be charged for shipping.
- Provide a FedEx account number and the Dallas office will generate the air bill, with a $5 fee added to your work order.
- Or collect both passports in person at Suite 500.
- Return shipping is an optional service. Sameday Passport & Visa only returns passports using FedEx.
Government fees + Sameday Passport & Visa expedite fees + return FedEx shipping fees = total fees.
