Do you qualify to renew?
For a mail-in DS-82 renewal, your most recent U.S. passport must meet the current Department of State renewal rules:
- Is undamaged and can be submitted with your application.
- Was issued when you were age 16 or older.
- Was issued within the last 15 years.
- Was issued in your current name, or you can legally document the change.
If you have a previously issued passport card, please include it. If you do not qualify for DS-82, you generally apply in person using DS-11 instead. See the new or first-time passport page.
Renewing from outside Dallas
Eligible DS-82 renewals are mail-in applications, so no passport acceptance facility is required. Sameday Passport & Visa Expedite Services accepts private-service renewal packages by mail at the Dallas office.

For a DS-82 renewal by mail, send a check or money order payable to “U.S. Department of State”. Online-renewal and passport-agency payment methods are different, so follow the payment instructions for the route you are using.

Adding it up for a renewal
For an adult passport book renewal, the Department of State amount is $216.87 only when the $130 application fee, $60 expedited-service fee and $26.87 optional 1–3 day passport-book delivery all apply. The $399 fastest private service fee on this page is separate.
- Include a prepaid return air bill and you will not be charged for shipping.
- Provide a FedEx account number and the office will generate the air bill, with a $5 fee added to your work order.
- Or collect the new passport in person at Suite 500.
