Do you qualify to renew?

Sameday Passport & Visa can assist with your U.S. passport renewal needs. To qualify, your most recent U.S. passport:

  • Is undamaged and can be submitted with your application.
  • Was issued when you were age 16 or older.
  • Was issued within the last 15 years.
  • Was issued in your current name, or you can legally document the change.

If you have a previously issued passport card, please include it. If any condition above is not met, you file as a new or first time passport instead.

Renewing from outside the Loop

Because a renewal needs no appearance in person, distance is not a problem. Sameday Passport & Visa accepts renewal applications by mail at the Chicago office.

How to apply

What to have ready before you come in.

Complete the online application
Fill in the DS-82 renewal form before you come in. Do not sign the application until instructed to do so. You must provide a Social Security number, if you have been issued one, in accordance with 22 U.S.C. 2714a and 22 C.F.R 51.60(f).

Proof of citizenship and ID
You must present one of the following: a fully valid U.S. driver's license; a fully valid, undamaged U.S. passport (may be expired); a Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship; a government employee ID (city, county, state or federal); a U.S. military ID or military dependent ID; a valid foreign passport; or a Matricula Consular, commonly used by the parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant.

You must submit your current undamaged passport. The expired passport will be returned to you along with the new passport.
Flight itinerary
If you have a copy of your flight itinerary or ticket, please include it. If you do not have a travel itinerary or a ticket, that is okay.
Passport photos
Passport photo services are available at the Chicago office. Photos must be 2″ x 2″ on a white background, and must not be older than one month.
Changed your name due to marriage or divorce?
In the event that you changed your name due to marriage or divorce, you will need to bring in a certified copy of your marriage certificate or a court decree that shows your name change.

Government expedite fees must be paid by cashier's check or money order, payable to “US Department of State”. No credit or debit cards are accepted for government fees. Emergency replacement and limited validity replacement passports depend upon application type.

Sameday Passport & Visa also lets you pay everything by debit card, cash or check and will obtain the money order for an additional fee of $10.00.

Adding it up for a renewal

A renewal at the fastest speed is the $213.36 government fee plus the $399 service fee, with shipping on top only if you want it couriered.

  • Include a prepaid return air bill and you will not be charged for shipping.
  • Provide a FedEx account number and the office will generate the air bill, with a $5 fee added to your work order.
  • Or collect the new passport in person at Suite 203.

Do I qualify to renew my passport at Sameday Passport & Visa Chicago?
You qualify for renewal if your most recent US passport is undamaged and can be submitted with your application, was issued when you were age 16 or older, was issued within the last 15 years, and is in your current name or you can legally document a name change. If you have a previously issued passport card please include it with your application.
