Renewal and DS-11 applications are not the same.
One of the most important steps is identifying the correct application route before you prepare documents or pay fees.
Eligible adult renewal
Many adults who qualify to renew use Form DS-82. A qualifying renewal generally does not use the same acceptance-facility process as a first-time DS-11 application.
- Bring or provide your most recent passport information.
- Confirm that you meet the current DS-82 eligibility requirements.
- Prepare a compliant passport photo and any required name-change document.
- Tell us your actual departure date before selecting a private service speed.
First-time, child or other DS-11 case
First-time adult applicants, children under 16, and many applicants who cannot use DS-82 file with Form DS-11 and must appear in person at an authorized acceptance facility.
- Citizenship evidence and acceptable identification are required.
- The application is signed when instructed during the in-person process.
- A separate acceptance-facility fee applies to DS-11 applications.
- We can review the paperwork before submission to help catch avoidable errors.
How the Dallas process works
Start with the passport type and your travel date.
The goal is to determine the correct form, document set, government filing route, and realistic service option before your application moves forward.
- STEP 1
Tell us your situation
Renewal, first passport, minor, lost passport, name change, or another passport need — plus your departure date.
- STEP 2
Review the documents
We check the application, citizenship or identity evidence, photo, and supporting documents for the selected filing route.
- STEP 3
Complete the required filing step
DS-11 applicants complete the required in-person acceptance step. Eligible renewals follow the applicable renewal route.
- STEP 4
Continue with the selected service
After the required documents are ready, the Dallas team confirms the private service option and next handling step for your case.
