Government payment methods depend on how and where you apply. Mail-in renewals generally use a personal check or money order payable to “U.S. Department of State.” Online renewals and passport agency payments may allow credit or debit cards.

- The $35 acceptance fee, when required for DS-11 applications, is paid separately to the acceptance facility using the payment methods that facility accepts.

DS-11 applications submitted at a Passport Acceptance Facility carry a separate $35 acceptance fee. DS-82 and DS-5504 applications do not use that acceptance fee, while second-passport and limited-validity cases depend on the form required.

What the expedite fee covers
Sameday Passport & Visa Expedite Services reviews the application and supporting documents before submission, confirms the appropriate service path for your travel date, tracks the case while it is in process, and coordinates return delivery when requested.
Document review is included in the service fee and is designed to catch preventable issues before submission. Final approval and processing are controlled by the U.S. Department of State.
