To qualify, your most recent U.S. passport
- Is undamaged and can be submitted with your application.
- Was issued when you were age 16 or older.
- Was issued within the last 15 years.
- Was issued in your current name, or you can legally document the change.
If you have a previously issued passport card, please include it.
Do not meet all four? You will need a new or first time passport instead. Passport gone or damaged? See lost, stolen or damaged.
What happens next
Sameday Passport & Visa Expedite Services reviews your DS-82, renewal eligibility, passport photo, and supporting documents before submission, then helps you choose the service option that fits your travel date.
You must submit your current undamaged passport. The expired passport will be returned to you along with the new passport.
Government fees for an expedited adult passport book renewal are $216.87 when the $130 application fee, $60 expedite fee, and $26.87 1–3 day return delivery fee apply. For a mailed DS-82 renewal, pay by personal check or money order payable to “U.S. Department of State”. Do not send cash.

How to apply
Seven things to prepare.
Complete the online application
Complete Form DS-82 carefully. Sign and date the application as required before it is submitted; we can review the form first if you want help checking it.
You must provide a Social Security number, if you have been issued one, in accordance with 22 U.S.C. 2714a and 22 C.F.R 51.60(f).
Identity and supporting documents
For most eligible DS-82 renewals, your most recent passport is the key identity and citizenship document. Bring any additional identification or name-change documents that apply to your situation.
- Fully-valid U.S. driver's license
- Fully-valid, undamaged U.S. passport (may be expired)
- Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
- Government employee ID (city, county, state or federal)
- U.S. military ID or military dependent ID
- Valid foreign passport
- Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular Identification, commonly used by the parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant)

Current U.S. passport
You must submit your current undamaged passport. The expired passport will be returned to you along with the new passport.
Flight itinerary
If you have a copy of your flight itinerary or ticket, please include it. If you do not have a travel itinerary or a ticket, it's okay.
Passport photos
Passport photo services are available at the Sameday Passport & Visa Expedite Services office. Photos must be 2″ x 2″ on a white background, and must not be older than one month.
Changed your name due to marriage or divorce?
In the event that you changed your name due to marriage or divorce, you will need to bring in a certified copy of your marriage certificate or a court decree that shows your name change.
Applying by mail? Two letters of authorization and a service order form
If you are processing your passport application with Sameday Passport & Visa Expedite Services by mail, please fill out two Letters of Authorization and the service order form, and send them along with the documents.

For mailed DS-82 renewals, U.S. Department of State fees are generally paid by personal check or money order payable to “U.S. Department of State”. Do not send cash.
