A second passport is filed like a renewal, so there is no Passport Acceptance Facility appointment to arrange.

Second US passport.
If necessary, you are allowed to hold two valid US passports. Follow the instructions below to expedite your second valid US passport.
When a second book helps
- Your main passport is at a consulate for a visa and you still need to travel.
- You travel frequently and pages fill up faster than a visa can be returned.
- Two trips overlap and one country's visa process would hold your only book.
To qualify, your current valid U.S. passport must be undamaged and unaltered, issued when you were 16 or older, and in your current name.

Validity and fees
A second passport is only valid for two years. It is not a replacement for your main passport, which stays valid on its own schedule and is returned to you with the second book.
Government fees for a second passport are $213.36, payable to “US Department of State” by check or money order. Credit cards cannot be accepted for government fees.

How to apply
Six things to prepare.
Complete the online application
Fill in the DS-82 online, then bring it in unsigned. Do not sign the application until instructed to do so.
You must provide a Social Security number, if you have been issued one, in accordance with 22 U.S.C. 2714a and 22 C.F.R 51.60(f).
Current U.S. passport
You must submit your current undamaged passport. The expired passport will be returned to you along with the new passport.
Flight itinerary
If you have a copy of your flight itinerary or ticket, please include it. If you do not have a travel itinerary or a ticket, it's okay.
Passport photos
Passport photo services are available at the Sameday Passport & Visa office. Photos must be 2″ x 2″ on a white background, and must not be older than one month.
Second limited passport statement
Form needs to be completed and signed.
Applying by mail? Two letters of authorization and a service order form
If you are processing your passport application with Sameday Passport & Visa by mail, please fill out two Letters of Authorization and the service order form, and send them along with the documents.
