Why a book gets limited
You may replace a limited validity passport at anytime, however government fees will vary depending on when you apply.
The State Department shortens validity when something in the original application was unresolved: proof of citizenship, identity, a name discrepancy, or a missing document. Clear that up and the next book is issued for the full term.
Sameday Passport & Visa reads the limitation off your current passport and the consular letter, tells you which application applies, and files it from Suite 203.
If your passport came from a consulate
- A letter was included with the passport, setting out how to obtain a full validity book.
- That letter must be submitted with the application. Sameday Passport & Visa cannot substitute for it.
- Bring the limited book itself, undamaged. It comes back to you with the new passport.
- Changed your name since? Bring a certified marriage certificate or court decree as well.
Lost the consular letter? Call the Chicago office at (708) 360-7277 before you apply, because the replacement route differs without it.

If you are processing your passport application with Sameday Passport & Visa by mail, fill out two Letters of Authorization and the service order form and send them along with the documents to Suite 203.

Government expedite fees must be paid by cashier's check or money order, payable to “US Department of State”. Emergency replacement passports and limited validity replacement passports depend upon application type, so Sameday Passport & Visa confirms your figure at the counter.
Sameday Passport & Visa also lets you pay everything by debit card, cash or check and will obtain the money order for an additional fee of $10.00.

Adding it up for a limited validity replacement
At the fastest speed the replacement is the $213.36 government fee and the $399 service fee, with shipping on top only if you want it couriered. Because the fee depends on application type, Sameday Passport & Visa quotes the total before anything is filed.
- Include a prepaid return air bill and you will not be charged for shipping.
- Provide a FedEx account number and the Chicago office will generate the air bill, with a $5 fee added to your work order.
- Or collect the new passport in person at Suite 203.
- Return shipping is an optional service. Sameday Passport & Visa only returns passports using FedEx.
